Ean has been working on a set of teaching tools for a transition-year history curriculum, aimed at introducing the concepts of emigration and the Irish Diaspora to students. We believe that this will not only allow students to develop an understanding and sympathy for the emigrant experience, but will also help students to understand today’s changing Ireland.
The first stage of the project includes a course outline, suggested exercises, and an extensive list of resources. We introduced our programme to teachers at the History Teachers of Ireland Annual Conference to an enthusiastic response. We will now be working to pilot the project through 2008.
The second stage of the curriculum consists of a series of modules, which will be added to the page as completed.
- Module 1 images: Art (PowerPoint document) – added August 2008
- Module 2 images: Memorials (PowerPoint document) – August 2008
- Modules 1 and 2: Questions and notes (Word document) – August 2008
